Known to her vast acquaintance as Nguyet, our first ever Vision Awardee was a lecturer in the English Department, College of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University. She was given special responsibility for ethnic minority students. Noticing that their financial and other circumstances were extremely hard, she encouraged foreign and local expatriate friends to sponsor their studies. In 1996 this initiative became the Needy Students Support Programme. Since then has supported over 1000 students from ethnic minorities and HIWC supported over 100 such students. Nguyet took a close interest in the rights and responsibilities of her students and now retired, remains much admired for her role as their steadfast advocate and “mother of 1000 students.” For more information about the Needy Students Support Programme, please message Nguyet on firstname.lastname@example.org.
