Ms. Nguyen Phan Que Mai is an independent filmmaker and freelance journalist for major national newspapers, writing about arts, literature and social issues. She has designed and conducted gender mainstreaming courses and actively advocates for gender equality. In 2007, Ms. Que Mai founded a volunteer group ‘Making Dreams Come True’ to help more than 3,000 children with cancer living in the northern Vietnam. She continues to manage and chair the group’s Advisory Board. In addition to the HIWC Award, Ms. Que Mai was awarded the Australian Alumni Award for Sustainable Social Development in 2008 and two prizes for her poetry in 2010. She has authored two books and translated poetry from English to Vietnamese and vice versa, and received commendations for her contributions to literature.
