About Us

The Hanoi International Women's Club (HIWC) is a non-profit group whose membership is open to all expatriate women living in Vietnam. Expatriate men can join as Associate members. The membership year runs from September through August and membership dues are 450.000 VND (Vietnamese Dong) per year.

Formed by group of 30 Diplomatic ladies in 1986, the HIWC has today evolved into a dynamic entity with an average annual membership of 400 women from more than 50 countries.

The objectives of the HIWC are to promote the development of social, charitable and cultural activities among its members, the Hanoi based expatriate community, and the people of Vietnam; and to provide a forum for expatriate women to identify and discuss issues of common interest regarding their personal and professional lives in Vietnam.

Raising funds has always been at the forefront of all HIWC activities and the Annual Charity Bazaar has become a signature event of the Club, generating almost ninety percent of charitable funds. These funds are used to finance our Community Aid Projects, which improve the lives of disadvantaged women and children, and small communities in Hanoi.

HIWC has initiated a special gift certificate program to help funding needed eye surgeries.

In addition, HIWC funds a number of cleft lip and open palate operations and eye surgeries for children every year, whose families are not able to afford an operation themselves. The types of eye diseases we fund are cataract, ptosis (droopy-eye), and strabismus (cross-eye).

The Club organizes several social monthly events for the benefit of its members to raise additional funds for our Community Aid Projects.

The Club functions under the direction and leadership of a committee consisting of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and officers - all volunteers - who manage the HIWC. The Officers are responsible for Committees that oversee Membership, Newsletter, Website, Community Aid, Newcomers Welcome, Coffee Mornings, Luncheons, Special Events, Annual Charity Bazaar, HIWC Publications, and Sales and Marketing. Would you like to know more about the HIWC contacthiwc@gmail.com ?

Newcomers to Hanoi are made welcome at the Newcomers Welcome Coffee Morning and we can learn about the culture and tradition of a country at the "Meet My Country" luncheons in addition to various other luncheon themes. The Club also organizes tours to places of cultural and historical interest in and around Hanoi. Twice a year, a dinner dance is held in one of the 5 star hotels.

In order to showcase the talent of its' members, the HIWC organizes an Art & Photo Exhibit each year. Based on this exhibit, the Club publishes an Agenda/Calendar for the following year and all proceeds from the sale of this desk diary are used to support our Community Aid Projects.

As well as the above, there are circle activities reflecting current members' interests such as, Tennis, Golf, Bridge, Mahjong, Book Clubs and Cooking Classes. A monthly newsletter, Lotus News, is published and delivered to all members.

The Hanoi International Women's Club welcomes members at any time.
